What's 10 and under tennis?

10 and Under Tennis uses the QuickStart Tennis play format which takes a better approach to introducing kids to the game of tennis by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. Balls are lower in compression; they bounce lower and don't move as fast so they are easier to hit. This allows kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. All that equals more fun and less frustration. Full sized courts can be reconfigured to accommodate up to six 36-foot courts, so instead of waiting in line, kids can spend their time playing.

Jerry Karzen Tennis and North Shore Racquet Club have been using a variation of the 10 and Under Tennis in their Tot’s and Little Sprouts Classes over the past few years. We have used smaller racquets, foam balls, and smaller courts to get our youngest juniors playing at a level where they can comfortable progress into the Beginner/Intermediate programs while still having fun and loving the game of tennis. Now with the new development of specialized balls and equipment for varying age levels from 10 and under, we can help the older beginner ages 8-10 or 11, develop their skills at a faster pace while having fun and learning the sport of a life time, tennis!
