Outdoor Basketball PictureJohn Karzen has been directing and teaching NSRC's co-ed basketball program since 1999 for juniors, ages 4 through 13. The program initially started as a summer camp program with 20 campers per day. Today the program is year round with 12 independent classes per week with approximately 200 students enrolled.

Our goals are:

  1. To offer a high quality basketball program for juniors that teaches the basic fundamentals, offensive and defensive philosophy, team building, and sportsmanship.
  2. To teach all players to learn to respect their coaches, officials, and rules, as well as, each other.
  3. Positive reinforcement and confidence building of all players and all abilities, at all levels.

Little Dribblers Program (ages 4-5) is structured for fundamental movement skills, coordination and balance. Emphasis is on beginning dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and rebounding skills.

Dribblers Program (ages 6-7) is also structured for fundamental movement skills, coordination and balance while increasing development in ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense.

3 Pointers Program (ages 8-10) is structured for increased technical development of basic basketball skills - ball handling, passing, shooting and rebounding while adding positions, defense, transition play, screens and plays.

Advanced 3 Pointers Program (ages 11-13) is structured for more precise development of basic skills while adding an increased knowledge of each position players responsibilities for an increased basketball IQ. Basketball specific conditioning and 'teaching scrimmages' will be heavily emphasized.

Basketball Birthday Parties are also offered most Saturdays from 5:30-7pm or Sundays from 11:00-12:30pm, contact John Karzen for more information.
